The Electric Junk: A Fuzz Story
The Electric Junk is my take on the Zonk Machine. Years of work, hundreds built for players in their homes and on the stage.
The original Zonk was a germanium fuzz with 3 transistors. Designed after the Tonebender MkI, it was made for a short time in the sixties. My version has a 3 way tone switch, and two trims inside for gain. They are important when using the pedal in hot situations as the gain goes up. I pick the transistors for gain and leakage, not for their brand. They may not look the same as the ones pictured.
The Zonk has a unique voice. From a soft buzz, like reeds, to full gain. Almost an overdrive, but always a gate at the end of the notes. Not like a Fuzz Face - it will not clean with the guitar volume. But it sustains. Holds the note when it should die.
I have a variety of colours available, hand-printed, two colours, on three sides. Some are germanium, some are hybrid versions. Please contact me before ordering to check which are in stock.
